Madeleine Farr
international editor, modern treatise
Madeleine Farr is the International Editor at Modern Treatise, where she guides the publication’s global coverage with a discerning editorial eye and a deep commitment to illuminating the forces shaping the world stage. She curates incisive, in-depth reporting and analysis on key regions—including Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, Oceania, and the West Indies—while providing context-rich perspectives on shifting geopolitical dynamics. From U.S. foreign policy and international diplomacy to the cultural currents influencing global affairs, Madeleine ensures that Modern Treatise delivers journalism that is as rigorous as it is compelling.
Her editorial leadership is grounded in hands-on reporting and newsroom management. At The Student Life, Southern California’s oldest student-run newspaper, she rose from Copy Chief to Senior News Editor, overseeing a team of sixteen reporters and shaping the publication’s news agenda. In this role, she mentored writers, edited breaking news and feature stories, and ran weekly training sessions to strengthen reporting craft, narrative clarity, and audience engagement. She has also contributed to the Claremont Courier. In this independent nonprofit newspaper, she covered local government, community affairs, and higher education, honing her ability to connect global issues to local realities.
Madeleine’s journalistic approach combines precision and narrative depth, refined by her experience enforcing AP and in-house style standards, managing editorial workflows, and coordinating copy reviews during high-pressure production nights. Her grounding in political science and writing lends her coverage both analytical rigor and a compelling sense of story.
Currently advancing her academic work in Political Science with a minor in Writing & Rhetoric at Pitzer College, focused on U.S. foreign policy, comparative politics, and macroeconomics—academic pursuits that directly inform her editorial work. Her early dedication to the craft began at the Packer Collegiate Institute, where she co-edited the school newspaper and developed a keen sense for clarity, accuracy, and editorial integrity.
As International Editor, Madeleine brings an unwavering commitment to accuracy, narrative quality, and global perspective. Whether commissioning coverage on diplomatic tensions, analyzing the impact of economic policy on international relations, or contextualizing cultural movements, she ensures that Modern Treatise’s international reporting remains authoritative, nuanced, and engaging for a global readership.
